Jane Iredale Make Up

Jane Iredale introduced her unique skin care make-up line in May 1994. It was the first range to offer not only colour enhancement but also to have positive benefits for the skin. The products are based on micronised minerals and do not contain any fillers or binders (such as talc and mineral oil) nor does it contain chemical dyes or preservatives. The result are so effective that the range is recommended by plastic surgeons, aesthetic practitioners, dermatologists and skin care professionals.

The major benefits are listed below:

• Four in one. The mineral bases are four products in one: foundation, concealer, powder and sunscreen. This means that they can disguise almost any skin discolouration.
• SPF 18 Pressed Bases & SPF 20 Loose Bases. Formulated with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, the minerals give sun protection and are also very water resistant.
• Fast weightless coverage. The absence of fillers means that the pigments are not diluted. The all-day coverage provided will need minimum touch ups and will not fade or crease.
• Non-comedogenic and oil -free. The pores do not become blocked and so the skin can breathe and function normally.
• Minimum allergy risk. The absence of chemical dyes, preservatives and fragrances in the bases, blush and eye shadows means that there are no sensitisers to inflame and irritate the skin. (This also means that the products are safe to use after any rejuvenation procedure).
• Coverage. Because the minerals are concentrated pigment, they can give compete coverage and can also camouflage blotchy skin and some birthmarks.
• Adhere. The minerals stick to the skin until they are removed with cleanser. This means that they resist smearing, creasing and running.
• Anti-inflammatory. The titanium dioxide and the zinc oxide in the bases have anti-inflammatory properties which can help acne and rosacea- prone skin.
• Inert. Loose minerals are inert and do not support the growth and proliferation of bacteria.
• Quality. The ingredients in the make-up are of the highest quality to ensure optimum coverage, application and texture. The vitamins and antioxidants within the products are pharmaceutical grade.

The perfect way to be introduced to the products from the Jane Iredale range is to have them applied by an expert. Every month, a professional make-up artist holds a clinic at Temple Aesthetics. She will demonstrate how to get the best out of the products and how they should be applied to achieve beautiful results. The makeover is completely free but due to the demand for appointments (which last 45 mins) a £20 deposit is required to secure your consultation. This is redeemable against any products purchased.

The Jane Iredale Products

Foundations

AMAZING BASE ® Made from micronised minerals which have an SPF 20, this loose mineral powder is a concealer, foundation, powder and sunscreen all in one. It can be used wet or dry. It is available in 15 shades which are divided into cool, warm and neutral tones. The cooler tones have a pink undertone whereas the warm tones are more yellow. Don’t use on oily skin with large pores.

This product is best applied with the Chisel Powder brush for normal coverage and with the pink flocked sponge (contained in the packaging) for a heavier finish.

PURE PRESSED BASE ® made from micronised minerals which have an SPF 18, this powder also contains antioxidants (pine bark extract and pomegranate extract). It is slightly sheerer and gives a more matte finish than the loose powders. It is available in 24 shades and comes in a compact containing a mirror and sponge.

This product is best applied with the Handi™ brush for normal coverage.

LIQUID MINERALS™ this does not contain and SPF It provides make-up and skin care in one bottle. The formulation helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, minimises pores and evens out skin tone. The product is comes in little spheres, made up of microscopic liposomes which contain active ingredients (vitamins, and calming antioxidants) the spheres are suspended in a gel containing aloe vera.

When the make-up is applied to the skin, the body temperature breaks down the liposomes, which then gradually release their contents onto the skin over the course of the day.

For a young-hand look, Liquid Minerals can be rubbed onto the back of the hands to minimise redness, veins and age spots

This product is best applied with the Foundation brush which gives a light moist finish.

ABSENCE ® OIL CONTROL PRIMER This cream to powder eliminates shine and helps control sebum production thus making the skin less oily. It also primes the skin prior to application of any of the mineral bases. It has an SPF 15.
This product helps to regulate the pH balance of the skin and should be part of the daily routine of acne sufferers.

ABSENCE ® 2 OIL CONROL PRIMER All the benefits of Absence but is formulated to compliment the global foundation shades

PUREMATTE™ FINISH POWDER The finishing powders are specially formulated to help those with oily skins. Use under or over the mineral base to control oil and shine. There is no SPF in this product.

AMAZING MATTE™ LOOSE FINISH POWDER This translucent powder uses rice powder to cut shine. It can be used under or over the mineral bases. There is no SPF in this product

FACIAL BLOTTING PAPERS These are made from organic flax seed and can be used anywhere to absorb excess sebum and shine.

Bronzing Powders

SO-BRONZE™ this comes in two shades So-Bronze 1 (classic terra-cotta with tiny specks of gold) and So-Bronze 2 (slightly darker with an additional quarter moon or pressed gold powder) . Apply with a brush to add glow. These can be used to enhance lips and eyes or as a bronzer to give a sun-kissed look.

MOONGLOW Comprising 24 karat food-grade gold flakes, this product can be used on cheeks, lips and eyes or all over as a bronzer. The four luxurious shades can be used individually or swirled together. It can be used dry as a powder or mixed with moisturiser or hair gel to achieve a more dramatic effect.

Eyeshadow & Blusher

PUREPRESSED® BLUSH AND EYE SHADOWS The only ingredients used in addition to the bases are the colourants. These are all inorganic except for carmine (made from cochineal) .These powders can be used wet or dry (dampen brush with Facial Spritzer)

PUREPRESSED® EYE SHADOW KITS There are 3 choices of kits

• Daytime Eye Shadow Kit These 5 colours work together to create a neutral shading. The oyster shade can be used to highlight the top of the cheek bone.

Lips

PUREMOIST™ LIP COLOURS SPF 18 Made without chemical dyes, synthetic preservatives or animal products except for beeswax and carmine. The lipsticks have a delicious mint/ vanilla flavour. The lipsticks contain antioxidants and zinc oxide thus will moisturise and protect the lips. There are a choice of 32 shades.

MULTI-COLOUR FOR LIPS This compact contains a selection of the 5 favourite colours (Rose, Sarah, Sharon, Ashley and Cherry Sparkle PureGloss) The compact also contains a mirror and lip brush.

PUREGLOSS™ FOR LIPS Unlike many other brands of lip glosses these do not contain petroleum products. LIP DRINK™ SPF 15 This colourless lip balm also contains no petroleum products. It is in a base of macadamia nut oil which has had zinc oxide for sun protection. The lip drink contains antioxidants (green tea extract, vitamins C & E) the flavour comes from lemon and orange oils. Lip Drink can be used alone or on top of pencil or lip colour

MORE LIP™ This product contains natural plumping ingredients of mint oils and ginger root. It also softens, hydrates and exfoliates the lips.

LIP AND EYE PENCILS These are made from conditioning oils and waxes and are coloured with protective pigments. Since they do not contain any chemical dyes, the pencils can be used interchangeably on the eyes and lips and can also be used anywhere on the face. The soft formula lends itself to blending and can also be used as a lip base.

Eyes

EYE HIGHLIGHTER PENCIL A jumbo double-ended pencil with a pink and white colour. It can be used to highlight the inner corner of the eyes, around the eyes or above the browbone and cheekbone. It will also enhance and highlight the lips.

CREAM TO POWDER EYELINERS There are 4 different colour trios available. The creamy formula is easily applied with the Eyeliner/Brow brush and can be smudged with the sponge end of the brush or with a finger. The product can be used as an eye shadow or to colour brows.

LIQUID EYE LINERS With the specially designed brush, this product is easy to apply, long lasting and smudge proof. There are a choice of 3 colours to create different looks.

LID PRIMERS A choice of 2 colours, these can be worn alone or with eye shadow on top. For people with oily eyelids, this helps the colour stay fixed without creasing. The colour also adds a subtle highlight to the lid.

PURELASH™ MASCARA The ingredients of this product will make your lashes look longer and thicker. It resists flaking, smearing and is water-resistant. The formula does not contain any lacquers, shellac or petroleum- based products. The panthenol and seaweed help to condition the lashes which also helps them grow to their full potential. It is available in black and brown/black.

PURELASH™ LENGTHENING MASCARA This contains similar ingredients with the addition of wheat protein to condition and curl the lashes. It also contains triple-length cellulose fibres which add extra length and thickness. It is available in 5 different shades.

PURELASH™ EXTENDER AND CONDITIONER When used to prime lashes before mascara it adds measurable thickness and length. The conditioners contained allow the lashes to grow to their full potential.

PUREBROW™ COLOUR This comes packaged in a tube with a mascara wand. It should be stroked onto the brow to add colour or as a highlight. It is very effective at covering grey. It can also be used as a light mascara

PUREBROW™ FIX AND MASCARA This comes packaged in a double ended tube. It can be used to hold brows in place or a s a clear mascara. The comb can be used on the brows and the brush on the lashes.

SUPER-SHAPE ME™ EYEBROW KITS This compact contains everything for the brows:

24 KARAT GOLD DUST A luxurious gold powder can be brushed onto eyes, cheeks and lips. It can be mixed with hair gel or moisturiser for added sparkle. It shimmers rather than glitters and is available in 7 different shades.

ONE-4-ALL KIT The kit provides everything except the mascara and so simplifies make-up application once the base is on. It has a neutral theme and contains:

• Triple eye shadow
• 2 cream to powder liners
• Half moon of Complete Colour
• 2 lip glosses
• Double-ended brush for eye liners and shadows
  

Concealers

The colour of the concealer should be slightly lighter than the skin tone. Take care not to overdo the blending since the result may be to rub the concealer away.

CIRCLE/DELETE® CONCEALER containing conditioners such as jojoba esters and avocado oil (high in vitamins A,C,D and E), green tea extract and vitamin K, this product is an eye treatment as well as a concealer. Best results are achieved by applying with the Camouflage Brush.

The dark peach colour in Circle/Delete #2 effectively neutralises blue so can be used as a concealer for any bruising.

DISAPPEAR™ This cream is so packed with pigment that it can even cover black tattoos! As well as concealing break-outs, it also helps them to disappear. The formula contains seaweed extracts and green tea extract which helps combat acne forming bacteria. This product can be applied with or without a brush. After application, pat on the appropriate mineral powder. Disappear grabs the foundation to give a truly opaque finish so it is important that the camouflage is graduated to avoid seeing the edges.

ENLIGHTEN CONCEALER™ The cream is designed to help camouflage excess pigmentation, bruising and dark under eye circles. It should be stippled on with the Camouflage Brush, the edges feathered and then loose or pressed minerals applied on top. The concealer contains 3 whitening products (Arbutin, Licorice Extract and Vitamin K) which means that whilst covering the area, the product also helps to lighten it.

Facial Spritzers

D2O (Hydration Spray) In a ylang ylang flower water, this facial spritz helps to hydrate and plump the skin. The ingredients calm the skin and fight free radicals which makes it invaluable after treatments such as microdermabrasion, IPL and laser resurfacing. It should be used after applying make-up since it sets the minerals and gives a dewy rather than powdery finish. It can be used to wet the brushes when making liners

BALANCE (Antioxidant Hydration Spray) Formulated to help balance the skin’s oil production and pH it helps fight free radicals and repair microbial damage.

It contains myrrh which reduces inflammation, fights bacterial and fungal infection and improves skin circulation. The seaweed extracts reduce oil secretion and regulate the pH. The green tea extracts are powerful antioxidants and improve the quality of acne-prone skin.

POM MIST™ (Hydration Spray) This spritz contains pomegranate extract which as well as being a powerful antioxidant and UV protector, has also been shown to help protect against cancer. It hydrates, conditions and protects all skin types. It should be used to set the bases and will also help conceal pores and fine lines

MAGIC MITT™ Made from specially knitted micro-fibres quickly and efficiently this mitt removes make-up without cleanser. Being thinner than a human hair, the fibres break the surface tension of the oils that bond the make-up and exfoliate the skin.

It should be saturated in warm water prior to use and then use as a washcloth. Once finished, rinse and hang to dry. This ensures that no living bacteria or organic residues are left on the mitt to culture bacteria or fungi.

Men's Range

H/E™ BRONZER FOR MEN made from micronised minerals with an SPF 18 this product will give a subtle bronzed appearance as well as protecting the skin. It comes in 5 shades and contains a specially designed brush.

H/E™ LIP BALM WITH SPF 15 this gives lightweight lip conditioning and provides a broad spectrum sunscreen

Make-Up Brishes & Sponges

Using the proper tools is essential when it comes to applying make-up. The brushes in the Jane Iredale range have been specifically designed to produce the best effect and are either natural or synthetic.
The natural hair is obtained from grooming the animals and then subjecting it to intense cleansing processes to ensure that it is clean enough to be safely used on the skin. The brushes are hand-tied which means the integrity of the hair is maintained and is naturally tapered. This results is that they feel softer to use, pick up the powders more efficiently and distribute them more evenly on the skin
The synthetic brushes are made from Toray, Tylon and Taklon (nylon). They are designed to be used with cream based products. The nylon prevents the product from sticking to the fibres, allowing for easy transference or product and blending. Nylon is also long lasting and easy to clean.

The recommended uses of the different brushes are listed below:

• Chisel Powder - blend of pony and goat. Best used with loose powders
• The Handi™ - blend of squirrel and pony. Best used with pressed powders
• Foundation Brush - taklon nylon. Use with Liquid Minerals and Absence
• White Fan - boar bristle. Use with blush and shimmer powders
• Dome - goat hair. Multi-purpose brush, ideal for highlighting with bronzers or shimmer powders.
• Eye Shade and Eye Contour - goat. Use Eye Shader for eye base colour and Eye Contour for the accent colour
• Deluxe Shader - sable hair. Use for soft smooth shading
• Crease - goat hair. Thinner than the Eye Contour brush, use when more definition is required
• Eyeliner/Brow - toray nylon one end with sponge tip on the other. Used for brows and eye line. Sponge tip used for smudging.
• Detail - taklon nylon. Used for shading brows or for eye liner.
• Sable Lip - sable hair. Used for precise lip colour application
• Retractible Lip - tylon (nylon)
• Camouflage - toray nylon. Use with Circle/Delete, Disappear and CoverCare. Can also use to apply eye shadows wet.
• Flocked sponge - synthetic (non-latex) Use for stippling extra powder onto skin where needed. Also can be used for blending and removing any excess. Spritz with D2O or Balance and use as a quick make-up remover. Wash frequently.
• Kabuki - goat hair. Use with Amazing Base to get just the right coverage
• Deluxe Spoolie - nylon. Use to separate eye lashes between coats of Lash Conditioner and Lengthening Mascara. Also perfect for blending brow powder, pencil and PureBrow Gel
• Mini Dome - pony hair, taklon and goat hair. Ideal for applying accent colour around the eyes or contouring in the crease.
• Small Fluff - pony hair.use to apply light shimmery shadow to the inner corner of the eyes. Also a wonderful smudging tool and will aid in the creation of the smoky eye look when used with a dark shadow under the lower lashes.
• Puff - (included in the PureMatte, PurePressed and So-Bronze 1 and 2 compacts) use for application of the powders then blend with the proper brush indicated above.

Brush Care & Maintenance

New brushes should always be cleansed prior to use to remove any excess residue form the sanitising process.
The brushes should be cleaned regularly to maintain the integrity, structure and softness of the natural hair and its performance in application.

Use warm water and a little bit of mild shampoo or Brush Shampoo and Conditioner.

Never leave the brushes to soak since this will shorten the life of the handle and the metal collar
The brushes will dry best if, after gently squeezing the excess water, it is laid flat on a towel with the head over the edge of the counter. This allows the air to circulate evenly and helps to preserve the shape.

When travelling, use a brush case which will prevent the brushes from becoming damaged

Application Problems

• “too much shine” Layering too thickly with a sponge is the most common reason for this. Apply the foundation in thin layers with a brush until the desired coverage is reached. It may also help to spray with a facial spritzer and then blot. Try applying PureMatte on top. For oily skin with large pores, apply Absence underneath the powder especially in the large-pore area. The skin can be touched up with PureMatte if required through out the day or freshen with Facial Blotting Papers.
• “accentuates pores or fine lines” Try using the pressed powders rather than the loose. Spritz and blot or mix the loose powders into a moisturiser and make a cream foundation, applying this with fingers or a sponge. If the powders appear to accentuate lines under the eyes, dampen a cotton pad with Facial Spray and gently press it on the problem area.
• “uneven and blotchy” Usually a result of applying the minerals before the moisturiser has been absorbed. The Facial Sprays are good substitute moisturisers for oily skin. If using a sponge to apply the minerals it is better to use the Flocked Sponge since it blends the powders and does not drag. The sponge in the pressed compacts is best used for touching up.
• “wrong colour” this was probably chosen in poor lighting. The best way to check the colour is to apply it onto the jaw line in good daylight. The colour should disappear if it blends perfectly with the skin.
