IPL (Naturalux)

Naturalux IPL – See The Light

Temple Aesthetics offer skin rejuvenation using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL is a non-invasive treatment that uses high intensity pulses of visible light to improve the appearance of your skin. Using carefully controlled pulses of light, at the optimum wavelength, fine lines, wrinkles and ageing spots are reduced. At the same time,  boosting the production of collagen and elastin to create youthful, fresh and smoother looking skin. We use Naturalux IPL, an advanced, non-invasive beauty treatment that can remove up to 10 years from your appearance in just five sessions.

A series of treatments will result in improvement of sun and age spots, broken capillaries, spider veins, rosacea, red acne scars, facial redness and fine lines and wrinkles. Treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest and hands. With little or no downtime or side effects, there is a very high degree of patient satisfaction. It is a predictable and safe type of therapy.

IPL systems differ from lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. This allows the procedure to target several conditions with each treatment. IPL therapy is considered non-ablative, meaning that the top layer of the skin remains intact, thus the treatment is performed without downtime.

Naturalux IPL offers excellent results in the treatment of rosacea* and sun-damaged skin to give an even and fresh skin tone. Carefully controlled pulses of light target the surrounding affected areas which are easily absorbed by the haemoglobin in the red blood cells. This then damages the wall of the blood vessels allowing the body’s own natural defence to remove this tissue resulting in a reduction in the unevenness of skin colour. This clinically proven method shows results after a few sessions.

IPL can treat:

  • Fine lines, wrinkles
  • Facial thread and spider veins
  • Pigmented lesions (age spots, liver spots and some birth marks, perfume pigmentation on neck
  • Rosacea*
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Vascular lesions
  • Open pores
  • Unwanted hair

*Rosacea is a common, chronic condition of the face characterized by redness, flushing, dilated blood vessels and frequently-developing pustules and swelling.

View Frequently Asked Questions

How long does treatment take?
Treatment usually takes 15 to 20 minutes. At Temple Aesthetics we allow more time for your first appointment because it is essential that you undergo a consultation before starting treatment. This enables us to ensure that the treatment is right for you and also that we can advise your expectations, after care and recovery time

How long before you see the results?
For some conditions, results are immediate. Some conditions, may take 2 or 3 treatments to achieve the desired outcome.

How many treatments are needed

Treatments may not need to be repeated but we recommend that treatments are not repeated more frequently than every 4 to 6 weeks. The number of sessions required will depend on the underlying problem being treated

How long do results last?

the effects of treatment can last from 3-10 years.  Obviously the longevity of the results will also depend on how you look after your skin too. Although we can treat the problem we cannot completely halt the ageing process and so your skin will con

Is treatment painful?
No. A topical anaesthetic can be used but is generally not needed. You may feel quite warm after the procedure.

What is IPL and how does it work?
IPL is the delivery, via a hand piece, of intense pulses of light. Unlike lasers, IPL delivers many wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. This allows the procedure to target several conditions with each treatment. IPL therapy is non-invasive and non-ablative, meaning that the top layer of the skin remains intact, thus the treatment is performed without downtime. Via the hand piece, light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood, when treating vascular lesions, or the melanin, when treating pigmented lesions, damaging them. The body's natural processes then remove the injured tissue with result that the skin has a more even and youthful appearance. During the week after the treatment, sun spots may initially darken but then will flake off and decrease in redness, revealing younger, more vibrant skin.

Is IPL safe?
Yes. The visible light is completely safe so no special precautions are necessary, apart from special light filtering glasses or goggles which are used throughout any treatment.

Is an allergy test necessary?
A test patch can be offered to assess an area before treatment. The cost will be redeemed against your first treatment.

What is the downtime?
There is usually no downtime.

Are there any side effects?
Most clients experience no side effects at all, however, the skin of some clients can become red immediately after treatment and, very rarely, a minor sunburn-like sensation or small blisters can occur. Any side effects usually disappear within hours or 72 hours.
Unlike electrolysis, Naturalux IPL treatment is non-invasive.

Are there different versions of IPL?
Yes, IPL systems vary considerably. Basic systems found in spas and performed by non physicians do not have the necessary power to provide the type of results that more advanced systems are capable of producing. Furthermore, they do not have internal safety mechanisms required to ensure predictable and safe results. We only use Naturalux IPL which must be administered by a qualified practitioner.

Is IPL suitable for all skin?
Treatment should be avoided on skin prone to infection, e.g. herpes, unless a prophylactic course is being undertaken at the same time. Tanning should be avoided prior to the treatment as this may increase the risk of a complication. The risk for side effects in patients that have darker skin types is higher. A history of keloidal scarring also presents a risk for IPL treatment.

What are the contraindications for IPL?
IPL treatments should not be performed on a patient that is pregnant, epileptic or has active cold sores or skin infection. Tanning (including sprays and creams) should be avoided prior to treatment. A history of keloidal scarring may present a risk for IPL treatment.

What skin problems can IPL treat?
Fine lines and wrinkles, pigmented lesions (age spots, liver spots and some birth marks), broken capillaries, sun-damaged skin, spider veins, rosacea, red acne scars, facial redness, vascular lesions, open pores and unwanted hair.

Where can IPL be used?
treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest and hands.

What should I do next if I want a treatment?
It couldn't be easier, call or email to arrange a free consultation
