Genuine Dermaroller™Therapy™

Micro-needling utilises the body’s self-healing mechanisms. The intrusion of tiny surgical needles is sensed by skin nerve receptors but the needles are so fine that tissue is undamaged and the skin integrity stays intact. However, this “nerve-stimulus”, transported by electrical signals, triggers a cascade of healing.

The number of treatments required will depend on the individual condition. We may recommend anything from 1 to 6 procedures, each separated by 6 to 8 weeks.

This treatment is ideal for dealing with scarring from acne lesions.

How long does treatment take?
Treatment takes about 45 minutes but allow 90 minutes for complete preparation and aftercare of skin.

How long before you see the results?
According to the condition, 3-5 procedures, separated by 6 to 8 weeks, are sufficient to resurface the skin. It will take between 6 weeks and 6 months to appreciate the results of resurfacing the skin in the treated area.

How long does treatment last?
We recommend one refresher treatment every six months.

Is treatment painful?
The treatment is usually slightly uncomfortable but the prior application of anaesthetic cream and ice packs makes a tremendous difference.

What is Dermaroller and how does it work?
Dermaroller
® is a roller covered in hundreds of tiny needles. Rolling the hand-held tool over the skin, or micro-needling, stimulates the body’s self-healing mechanisms. The skin nerve receptors react to the intrusion of the micro-needles as it would to any skin-penetrating object but the needles are so fine that the skin tissue stays intact however, the “nerve-stimulus”, transported by electrical signals, triggers a cascaded healing process. Skin cells, in a radius of 1 to 2 mm around the pricking channel, release growth signals to undifferentiated cells. These signals in turn stimulate a proliferation of new cells to transform into collagen and elastin fibres. As a result of the thousands of microscopic needle-pricks, the induced collagen formation becomes confluent and forms a new collagen layer (neo-collagenesis). A further benefit is that the inner cells that coat our vessels (endothelial cells), and in particular these of our capillaries, are also stimulated to proliferate. They react to this stimulation by sprouting new capillaries that in return results in a greater and better blood supply to the skin (neo-angiogenesis).

Is Dermaroller safe?
Yes, no negative side effects have been reported in over a quarter of a million procedures performed worldwide.

Is an allergy test necessary?
No.

What is the downtime & are there any side effects?
The inflammatory reaction of the skin to Dermaroller is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 1 to 2 days on average, depending on the pigments of the individual. There are virtually no negative side effects, and none have been reported in over a quarter of a million procedures performed worldwide. In order to get the most benefit from your treatment, you will be given aftercare advice by your practitioner including using a SPF cream daily, as your skin will be more sensitive to the effects of the sun for at least 2 weeks after the treatment.

Are there different versions of Dermaroller?
Yes, but we only use the Medical Dermaroller which must be administered by a medical practitioner.
