Frequently Asked Questions
People often wonder what is having “Botox” all about but are often too shy to ask, so here are some of your questions answered. Please feel free to ask any other questions either by phone, email or during your consultation (see contact us).
What exactly is Botox ®?
We use Botox ® or Dysport ®. These are both forms of botulinum toxin but are made by different companies. Botox ® is produced by Allergan (US company) and Dysport ® is made in the UK by Ipsen. The differences between the two products is insignificant in effect or cost and could be considered to be like comparing two different brands of coffee.
How is the Botulinium toxin used?
A very fine needle containing the muscle relaxant is used to inject minute amounts of solution into the area of the face selected for treatment.
How does it work?
The solution acts on the chosen nerves of the facial muscles so that they no longer crease or form wrinkles.
How soon does it work and how long does it last?
With some facial muscles, the effect is almost instantaneous. With others, the solution gradually takes effect over five to seven days. The results can last for up to six months.
Is it safe?
Yes. We only use the highest quality products which are fully licensed and certified. Procedures are administered by a fully-qualified and experienced medical practitioner who is trained in the use of these products.
Does it hurt?
We use the finest grade needles that are available, and replace them frequently during treatment. We also use a local anaesthetic cream (EMLA). Nevertheless, there is an initial slight pinprick as the needle pierces the skin. The procedure is explained more fully in the pages on Treatments page.
What does a treatment involve?
We do a full consultation and explain the options available. We can either do the treatment immediately or book a later appointment. We then do a full evaluation and follow up after two weeks, though of course we are available earlier if the client wishes. The procedure is explained more fully in the pages on The Treatment.
What effect can it have?
The effects are very subtle but very satisfying. Visit our Gallery to see for yourself.
How long does the treatment take to perform?
The procedure is generally very quick and simple and can even be performed during your lunch hour.
